There is a buzz about word “positive thinking” and everyone gives you an idea to stay positive to see good results.

But does this positive thinking stay for long duration?

Definitely not.

Yes, we are human being and our mind deals with emotions and feelings. Therefore, it’s natural for us to shift our mindset from positive to negative or vice-a-versa.

Positive thinking

Positive thinking means being optimistic in any given situation. It motivates you for a given period of time. You feel energized, productive and worthy of yourself. 

But there is no guarantee that this motivation will persist for long duration. In fact, there are high chances that you will get drag in the darkness of negativity so soon. This is because you are just thinking for the best-case scenario which may happen by chance. If this doesn’t happen, definitely you will loose out on hope.

Let for example, you are thinking that you will be successful in your business. But you know very well that only thinking doesn’t help to boost your business. There are various things you need to take care of like finance, projects, staff involvement, customer behaviour etc. And all these things are not in your control. The probability of success and failure is equal.

If you get success in your endeavour, it will boost your confidence. But, case may get reverse if things didn’t turn out in your favour.

Positive mental attitude

Positive mental attitude is far different from positive thinking. Apart from positive thinking, it involves practicing a right thought process for specific situation.

What does right thought process means? 

Right thought process means accepting the reality of situation, acknowledgingyour thoughts and feelings and then searching for best available options.

Let’s continue with above mentioned example, right thought process will be as follow.

I am new in this business. Certain things will go according to plan and certain may fail. I am ready for both situations. This is called as acceptance meaning you are very well aware of the situation, and you are accepting it completely.

If business goes according to plan I will be successful but if not, I have to face failure, rejection, criticism etc. For this, I have to analyse the probable risk also. This is acknowledgement, i.e. you have noted about both scenarios.

Before starting business, I will try to make a robust plan by taking advice from experts. This will ensure all operations processes are smooth. If anything goes wrong, I will keep alternative ready. Here you have found out the best available options.

Thus, positive mental attitude gives you an opportunities to learn, grow and thrive.

Positive mental attitude means you are always looking for good accepting both positive and negative side of the situation.

As a person with positive mental attitude, you will always consider your mistakes as learning lessons and will be more careful about your actions. Failure is a part of your learning process and you are aware about things that didn’t work out for you.

You face criticism positively thinking that everyone has their own opinion about life. People’s opinion doesn’t define you.

Cultivating positive mental attitude

In order to cultivate a positive mental attitude, you need to show confidence in your actions, take responsibility for your failures, practice gratitude, be gentle with yourself, need to practice self-forgiveness, show affection for others, admire others, care for others and need to engage with others.
