Understanding euphoric mood

Euphoria also described in terms as complex interplay of extreme happiness and psychological well-being involves intense surges of dopamine, serotonin and endorphins in the brain.

Simply, euphoria is more than just a fancy word for really happy. 

Euphoria isn’t just fleeting emotion. It’s a complex neurological phenomenon that can have profound effect on our emotional wellness.

A euphoric mood is characterized by feeling of strong happiness, joy, elation, excitement, and well-being. It is a state of optimism and cheerfulness with an amplified sense of pleasure that can have various reasons. 

When you are experiencing a euphoric mood, it can feel extremely joyful and pleasurable. You may feel safe, supported and carefree. You may experience a strong sense of well-being and a feeling that you are deeply connected to others and the rest of the world. 

Pleasant feelings of euphoria motivate you towards healthy behaviors and human flourishing. Therefore, euphoria is one of the most pleasant mental states.

Euphoria, derived from the Greek word for ‘bearing well’. In simple way, euphoria means heightened state of consciousness that reflects the inner joy of simply being alive and embracing the human experience.

You experience euphoria when something very good just happened to you. You have the urge to celebrate and share it with others. Euphoria is an emotion of great intensity, and thus needs an exceptionally positive trigger. It needs to fulfill a fantasy. The intensity of euphoria can further increase if it is preceded by a long period of hardship/negativity or hope that the wish would come true. Also, euphoria tends to be more intense when the levels of effort invested into fulfilling the wish is high. Euphoria can provide an enormous release from tension and help you to realize the process and savor good event.

Life’s satisfaction, exciting events, achievement all provoke feelings of euphoria.

Additionally,  state of euphoria can be naturally induced (e.g. in response to exercise, social activities, romance, and artistic endeavors), chemically induced (e.g. recreational drug use) or the result of a neurological condition (e.g. mania).

Improving quality of life

A natural state of euphoria makes you aware of the infinite possibilities within a human form. This includes improved mental health, increased motivation and a greater sense of purpose.

Responses for this emotion include heightened creativity and a sudden desire to express it. Taking risks due to feeling invincible and powerful is commonly noted. The belief that everything in one’s life has aligned, and one will be taken care of bring a sense of relief. You prefer to share the experience with others and feel more deeply connected. 

This even motivates you to take time to notice a beauty in all forms. This eventually increased your capacity for empathy, compassion, and altruism.

Free from all concerns and worries, it’s easier for you to get engage in mental exploration and daydreaming. Stimulated senses e.g. colors, smells, textures become more intense, and you start to experience a higher state of being. It would be beneficial to reduce the sense of discomfort and view the world through a lens of gratitude, exhilaration, serenity and connection.

In moderation, this state of intense well-being can benefit you to improve overall quality of life. 

While moments of euphoria can be a normal part of the human experience, they can become problematic when intense, persistent, or out of context.
